Ella’s Checklist/Coltyn’s Climb to the Top

An ambitious Coltyn has conquered yet another obstacle, Mount Couch. Seemingly disenchanted with the uninspiring challenge climbing stairs has offered as of late, Coltyn has taken to the couch. He strategically places his Fisher Price piano just in front of the couch to serve as his initial crevice to be used as leverage to arrive at the first checkpoint. He then gathers the couch pillows to serve as his next crevice on his final ascent to the summit. Coltyn beams with pride as his looks out across the horizon of his accomplishment. After a brief stay at the top, he safely returns home just in time for a graham cracker and a diaper change.

Ella’s vocabulary continues to improve, and at times, will prove to be on par with normal adult conversations, which proves she’s growing up way too fast. However, as any naïve 3 year old, she can communicate the most random topics that leave both Mom and Dad scratching their heads in an effort to try to understand what’s really going on inside her little brain. For example, Ella’s morning ritual consists of walking thru a checklist of precautions as Dad departs for work. Those precautions are as follows:

Ella: “Dad, watch out for cars. Don’t hit them, that would be bad.”
Dad: “Will refrain from hitting cars, check.”
Ella: “Dad, watch out for planes. Don’t worry, they’re good planes.”
Dad: “Check, will watch out for good planes.”
Ella: “Watch out for little monsters. Don’t worry, they’re good monsters.”
Dad: “Check, will watch out for good monsters.”
Ella: “Asta la vista seniorita.”
Dad: “Eh?”
